I was responsible for making a prototype, conducting a design research and presenting the work in the academic conference (CHI 2016).
Process
We iterated on prototypes a few times, and presented the interaction to artisans in the local pottery studio. We asked them to interact with the prototype and create a ceramic piece using it. We made a few different interactions associated with the interaction - hand gesture to curve the surface, voice input to convert sound into marks on the ceramic surface. The design research was conducted in a conversation based interviews and we captured qualitative data based on observations that we made during sessions and direct quotes from artisans. In any prototypes that we presented, we observed that the mimetic machinery enhances the material connection and phenomena-based representations.





Outcome
We published an academic paper based on prototypes and design research that we ran with Prof. Daniela Rosner at University of Washington. and presented this work in the international conference - CHI 2016 and received the honorable mention. You can find the full paper here.
